Stonehurst Elementary School Overview
Welcome to Stonehurst Elementary School!
Stonehurst Hills Elementary School has been a cornerstone of its community since its establishment in 1926. Designed by architect Horace W. Castor, the school was constructed to address the educational needs of a rapidly growing post-World War I population in the Stonehurst Hills neighborhood. The original Gothic Revival stone building featured a three-story H-plan layout, complete with a gymnasium/auditorium, shop rooms, and a cafeteria.
Over the decades, the school has undergone several renovations and additions, including a significant expansion in the late 1980s, to accommodate evolving educational requirements and a diverse student body. Beyond its primary educational role, Stonehurst Hills has historically served as a community hub, hosting events such as voting, baby clinics, and functioning as a local library branch.
